Why is this important?

What if utopia wasn’t an unreachable dream, but a driver of real-world transformation?

This training explores utopian visions in architecture and their role in reshaping how we live. These ideas—often seen as unrealistic—have inspired iconic buildings, from skyscrapers to eco-districts, that have redefined our environments.

Through group discussions, inspiring case studies and creative exercises, you’ll discover how utopian projects influence our societies.
You’ll be invited to imagine and sketch your own ideal city or house in small groups—challenging dominant logics and exploring alternative pathways.

We’ll also examine contemporary counter-models (e.g. Neom in Saudi Arabia), reflecting on their promises, limitations, and what they reveal about our societal choices.

By the end of the training, you will be able to:

• Understand the historical and critical relationship between utopia and architecture
• Assess the feasibility and impact of utopian architectural projects
• Envision and sketch concrete, desirable alternatives
• Critically analyse modern counter-models and their effect on our collective imagination
